Professor Howell has held professorial appointments at Harvard Business School, the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, the Thunderbird School of Global Management and New York University. He has earned a coveted “Outstanding Teacher Award” five times during his career.

Professor Howell’s academic thoughts and writings have appeared in media publications such as Fortune magazine and the Financial Times, as well as in distinguished thought leadership publications including Harvard Business Review, Sloan MIT Management Review, Management Accounting, Emerging Practices in Cost Management, and The Handbook of Cost Management, among others.

Professor Howell has run his own consulting firm for over 35 years. His clients have included General Electric, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Caterpillar, Boeing, Hallmark, AT&T, and Nestlé. He has led a series of study missions for senior executives to both U.S. and Japanese companies, has organized executive roundtables, and has twice served as technical advisor to Fortune’s Annual CFO Conference. He has also served as CFO of two publicly-traded consumer product companies, and been a director of public and private corporations.

Bob Howell is faculty director of the Strategic Financial Leadership Program and also teaches in the Tuck Executive Program.
